James J. “Jimmy” Hand, III, a named partner of LaPorte Sehrt Romig Hand (now LaPorte CPAs & Business Advisors) passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. Jimmy’s contributions to the accounting profession were many. He was a past member of the Council of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and also served as past Chairman of the State Board of Certified Public Accountants of Louisiana, Governmental Enforcement Program Committee and past Chairman of its Governmental Accounting and Auditing Committee. At LaPorte he was known to be very patient and generous with his time in mentoring younger professionals.
Jimmy was equally passionate about serving in his community. He was a long term retreatant and Captain of Group 38 of Manresa Retreat House, a member of the Touchdown Club of New Orleans, an usher at St. Angela Merici, and a volunteer at both East Jefferson Hospital and New Heights Therapy Center.
Jimmy was a gentle soul and will be missed by his family, his former colleagues, and the many people whose lives he touched.
