LaPorte provides guidance around the CARES Act

Clocking in at over 800 pages, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) is the most expensive legislation ever passed and has the potential to impact most individuals, businesses, and nonprofits in the United States. Given the length and complexity of the CARES Act, LaPorte professionals have been proactive in providing guidance wherever possible and have participated in webinars, radio shows, blogs, etc. to help relay information. A few of the ways in which we’ve provided guidance to the community can be found below.

CARES Act nonprofit webinar – in conjunction with Greater New Orleans Foundation, Tax Director Bruce Prendergast and Tax Senior Manager Jack Wiles presented on key aspects of the CARES Act and how it will affect nonprofits. Fidelity Bank (Louisiana) President and CEO Chris Ferris, also detailed what nonprofits need to know when applying for the Paycheck Protection Program and how to prepare their application.

Louisiana State Bar Association – Tax Directors Micah Stewart and Jodie Arceneaux conducted webinars on multiple occasions to members of the Louisiana State Bar Association and focused on small business interruption loans; payroll tax deferrals and credits; new and retroactive tax deductions for businesses; and individual provisions in the CARES Act.

CARES Act client webinar – on April 13th, several LaPorte tax professionals conducted a webinar for clients and the greater LaPorte community to provide an overview of the CARES Act and its impact on businesses, individuals and nonprofits.

Slow Money Show, April 8, 2020 – LaPorte Tax Director Chav Pierce provided guidance to businesses on this edition of the Slow Money Show.

Faubourg Private Wealth webinar  – In conjunction with Faubourg Private Wealth, Tax Senior Manager Connor Brown presented a webinar with a focus on the impact of the CARES Act on individuals. This high level overview covered everything from stimulus paychecks to withdrawals from retirement funds to charitable contribution limits for individuals.

WVUE FOX 8 news – Tax Senior Manager Connor Brown appeared on a segment with WVUE’s Liz Reyes to discuss what individuals can expect from the CARES Act.
