From his roots in the country of Jordan to becoming a trusted leader at LaPorte, Mo’s career reflects his perseverance and dedication to the accounting profession. Having moved to the US over 20 years ago, Mo reflects on his unique journey and the experiences that have shaped his professional life. We are excited to introduce Mo Al-kawafha, CPA, CGMA, MBA, Audit Director in LaPorte’s Houston office, as one of our Faces of LaPorte.
Mo’s professional story began across the world from Houston in his home country of Jordan, where he grew up and completed his undergraduate degree. “I was 21 when I moved to the U.S. to pursue my Master’s degree. When I moved, it was a journey—starting from the beginning, going back to school, and being away from my family. It was challenging, but at the same time, very rewarding.”
Reflecting on his growth, Mo is motivated by the pride of his family. “When I look back and see how much I’ve grown and how proud my family is, it makes a big difference to me,” he says. “I love my family, and knowing that my mom and dad are proud of where I am now means everything.”
Mo has been in public accounting for over 16 years, with a focus on clients in modern energy, energy-related services, and real estate. He is a member of the Energy Conference Committee of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants- Houston Chapter. But he is most passionate about being a mentor and developing others.
“I enjoy training my team and seeing them grow,” Mo shares. “When I look back and see how the people I’ve worked with have developed and how much I can rely on them, it’s incredibly rewarding. It’s moments like that that make me happy and excited about my career.”
Mo finds that the people he works with and the culture at LaPorte are what make him satisfied in his career. “We spend most of our time together, and if you’re not happy with the people you work with, it’s hard to keep moving through your day,” he says.
“It’s about my team and the people I work with. I enjoy my career because I enjoy the people I spend my time with, and that’s what it’s all about.”
Mo’s journey from Jordan to a leadership role at LaPorte is a testament to his dedication and adaptability. Whether it’s mentoring his team, serving his clients, or making his family proud, Mo embodies the values that make LaPorte a place to grow both personally and professionally.
“Looking back on my journey, I see how much I’ve grown and how far I’ve come,” Mo reflects. “That’s what keeps me motivated—knowing I’ve made a difference for my family, my team, and my clients.”
