Can you tell me about your very first role at LaPorte—were you an intern, a staff hire, or something else? How did that first position shape your expectations of the firm?

I joined LaPorte as a full-time staff tax accountant right after graduation, and later transitioned to the Client Accounting and Advisory Services team. From the start, I saw how much the firm values growth and invests in its people—which set the tone for how I’ve built my career here.

Looking back, what was the most surprising thing you discovered about LaPorte during your first few weeks here?

Looking back, one of the most surprising things I discovered during my first few weeks at LaPorte was the level of clients the firm serves. I was impressed to see so many well-known companies—some of which are household names that I have grown up hearing about.

When you first chose LaPorte, were there any conversations, events, or people early on that convinced you LaPorte was the right fit?

When I was going through the interview process, I had other interviews and even received offers from other firms. But after interviewing with LaPorte, they treated me like a real person, not just a résumé. I could see the value they placed on me and the value I could bring to the firm. After meeting the firm it was clear that LaPorte was right for me.

What part of your work makes you excited to come in—even on a Monday?

Knowing that my clients depend on me to track their finances each week makes me excited. Building those relationships and being part of their financial journey is what keeps me motivated.

Can you share examples of how skills you’ve learned in your hobbies or personal life translate into your work at LaPorte?

Patience and consistency are skills that I have learned in my hobbies that translate into my work at LaPorte. Building confidence and skill comes with experience.

Kayak fishing often requires patience and persistence—how do those traits help you tackle complex projects at LaPorte?

Just like fishing, complex projects don’t always have quick solutions—you have to stay focused, adjust your approach, and keep pushing forward.

Have you ever used kayak fishing as a way to recharge before a big deadline or client meeting?

Yes, I often use kayak fishing to recharge—especially after a big deadline or a stressful week. It’s a great way for me to unwind, reconnect with nature, and clear my mind. It helps me reset so I can come back to work focused and refreshed.

After all this time, what keeps you committed to LaPorte?

What keeps me committed to LaPorte is the trust clients place in me and the team I get to work with. I regularly help clients track their finances and knowing they rely on me feels rewarding.
