After interning at Disney World, Jeffrey realized his passions were not in hospitality and entertainment but rather in the more technical field of accounting. In 2022, he joined LaPorte, where he transitioned from audit to consulting, using his diverse experiences to help businesses and attorneys solve complex challenges. LaPorte CPAs & Business Advisors is proud to introduce Jeffrey Borne, CPA, a Senior in our Consulting Services Department, as one of our “Faces of LaPorte.”
“My connection with LaPorte began when I met several team members during my time at the University of New Orleans studying accounting,” Jeffrey explained. “Though I started my career elsewhere, I kept in touch with friends who worked at LaPorte. In January 2022, I got the opportunity to join the team. I initially started in the Audit department, and after about two years, I made the switch to Consulting.”
Jeffrey’s interest in LaPorte was piqued when he interacted with our team at an accounting awards event hosted by UNO. “I sat at the LaPorte table during the event, and we had a great time,” he shared. “One evening, I spoke with a friend who was a manager at LaPorte, and he encouraged me to send him my resume.”
Before Jeffrey found his passion for accounting, he was pursuing a degree in hotel, restaurant, and tourism management at UNO. He even interned at Disney World before realizing accounting was the right fit for him. “While working at Disney, I reflected on my accounting courses and realized that I wanted to switch paths,” Jeffrey said. “That decision led me to public accounting, where I began my career as an auditor.”
In his early years, Jeffrey assisted with consulting projects, which sparked his interest in focusing on consulting work full-time. “The variety of work really drew me in,” Jeffrey said. “Sometimes we collaborate with attorneys on calculations for legal cases, and other times we work with companies to help solve problems they’re unsure how to address.”
Jeffrey’s work involves reviewing documents and accounting systems to help businesses and attorneys identify issues or find solutions. Often, attorneys will seek assistance from LaPorte in fraud detection for legal cases.
“Our process typically begins with a call from a business or attorney, explaining the issue they need help with,” Jeffrey noted. “They send us relevant documents and give us access to the necessary systems or software. From there, I assess the best way to gather the information and move forward efficiently.”
Once Jeffrey has analyzed the data, he presents his findings in clear formats like written reports, PowerPoint presentations, or Excel workbooks, ensuring clients understand how the information leads to the conclusions. “I love delivering clear, positive answers to our clients. I enjoy translating complex accounting information into plain language, even if I used specialized knowledge to get there.”
Outside of his professional work, Jeffrey is passionate about travel, especially his visits to Cuba, which he’s been frequently visiting for the past six years. “Cuba has become my favorite place to visit,” Jeffrey shared. “I’ve made great friends there and had some unforgettable experiences. The people are fascinating, and I’m looking forward to my next trip.”
Jeffrey also appreciates LaPorte’s size, which offers both the stability of a well-established firm and the personal connections of a smaller workplace.
“LaPorte is my favorite company I’ve ever worked for,” he said. “We have a solid reputation and long-standing policies and procedures, but we’re small enough to truly get to know each other. In my past job at one of the world’s largest companies, it was hard to reach a manager when I needed help. At LaPorte, I have easy access to everyone I work with.”
As part of LaPorte’s team, Jeffrey believes the firm’s commitment to its clients’ success aligns with his own professional values. “We consistently provide high-quality, efficient services to our clients, and we’re always working to grow our reputation and increase our impact. Regardless of the department, our main goal is to solve our clients’ problems.”
