Should Public Employees Unable to Work Due to Office Closure Still be Compensated?

On March 22nd, in order to help fight the coronavirus pandemic, Governor John Bel Edwards issued a Stay at Home order for Louisiana. This means citizens of Louisiana are ordered to stay home unless they perform an “essential function.” This brings up the question of compensation as it relates to public employees. Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry issued an opinion on this complex matter which can be found on the Louisiana Legislative Auditor website.
