Frank Sharp, CPA, MS



During Frank’s professional career, he has performed audits, reviews, and compilations for a variety of industries including construction, oil and gas, broker-dealers, real estate, and manufacturing and distribution. Additionally, Frank has deep experience with SEC-reporting requirements and regulations, having assisted with over 500 SEC filings, including annual and interim reports as well as registration statements.

He is co-leader of the firm’s Energy Industry Group and also a member of the firm’s Construction, Real Estate, and Financial Services Industry Groups. He began his professional career in 2005 and joined LaPorte in 2014.


Frank has experience serving the energy industry in Texas, specifically with upstream and midstream companies and oil and gas services for both privately held and publicly traded entities. He serves the firm as a technical advisor for guidance on accounting issues related to the oil and gas industry, such as the differences between successful efforts and full cost accounting or rules related to oil and gas acquisitions, dispositions, or asset retirement obligations.


During Frank’s professional career, he has performed and assisted with audits, reviews, and compilations for both general contractors and subcontractors. Recently, Frank has worked closely with construction companies assisting with implementation of ASC 606 – Revenue Recognition, focusing on making this transition as seamless as possible. He also regularly attends AICPA and CFMA annual construction conferences to stay current on construction industry issues.


Frank’s experience includes auditing FINRA-registered broker-dealers with revenues ranging from less than $1 million to over $1 billion earned from providing an array of services including market-making, high-volume trading, private placements, and other services. Working with these broker-dealers has given Frank an in-depth knowledge of recent rule changes prescribed by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and experience dealing directly with PCAOB inspectors during their recent inspection programs.


Frank has worked with both single-family and multi-family real estate developers, property management companies, and privately held real estate holding entities as well as real estate investment trusts. The majority of his real estate clients are growth-oriented, middle-market businesses ranging in revenues from $10 million to more than $500 million. He is familiar with their business structures and advises on the unique issues these middle-market companies face on a daily basis.
