Bruce Prendergast, CPA, MS

ABOUT BRUCE

Bruce has extensive experience in all aspects of individual, corporation, S corporation, partnership, and nonprofit tax compliance and planning. Bruce joined the firm in 1983 and served for almost a decade as the Director-in-Charge of Tax Services. He now focuses on client service and mentoring staff.

Bruce has represented clients in tax disputes before the IRS through the appellate division and before state and local governments on income and sales tax issues.

CONSTRUCTION

A member of the Construction Industry Group, he provides traditional tax compliance and tax planning services to construction clients. Bruce advises his clients on the impact to them of recent and pending tax legislation such as the Employee Retention Tax Credit and the Payroll Protection Program.

NONPROFIT

As a former leader and current member within LaPorte’s Nonprofit Industry Group, he has assisted the firm’s nonprofit clients with planning issues regarding formation, initial filings (Forms 1023 and 1024), restructuring, and termination. In addition to annual Form 990 filings, Bruce works with LaPorte’s nonprofit clients regarding reasonable compensation, filing requirements regarding investment assets, unrelated business income (Form 990T), intermediate sanctions, and required policies and procedures regarding effective governance. He has also assisted nonprofit clients with IRS audits and correspondence. He has experience working with operating and nonoperating private foundations, supporting organizations, and nonprofit hospitals.

TRANSACTION ADVISORY SERVICES

As a CPA focused on tax and with over 35 years of experience, Bruce brings a deep understanding of the tax implications of the sale of a business. He models the transaction to adequately project tax consequences and surface relevant issues. He also frequently works with clients on tax-free reorganizations and business acquisitions.
